Dr. Mahmood Khan

Dr. Khan joined at OSU as a visiting scholar in 2004. He received his doctoral (PhD) degree in 2005 with specialization in Cardiovascular Pharmacology from Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, India. After finishing his doctoral degree he joined Dr. Kuppusamy’s group as a post-doctoral researcher at the Ohio State University, Department of Internal Medicine. In 2007, he received a prestigious James Warren Award from the Department of Internal Medicine for his work towards stem cells and myocardial regeneration. He was promoted to a rank of research scientist in 2007, which gave him the status of independent investigator. Dr. Khan received a National Scientist Development Grant (SDG, 2009) with a top score (1.7 %) from the American Heart Association this year on “The role of hyperbaric oxygen on the survival and engraftment of stem cells”. Dr. Khan is currently working on newer strategies to enhance the retention of stem cell after transplantation in the infarct heart.
